How Many Cups of Browned Ground Beef in a Pound
09/26/2012
This was more than a stew than soup and then I added some beef broth with the water. I made it for a family of 12 just take no left-overs...too many people really liked it. It needs more seasoning so I used Mrs. Dash instead of table salt. I used frozen veggies instead of canned for lower sodium and I did not pare the potatoes (for more cobweb and vitamins). It was delicious and easy to make.

Very skilful! My husband who is afraid of vegetables ate this up fast! Information technology's very filling and has wonderful flavors! He says he'll fifty-fifty eat the soup a 2nd night. He doesn't practise leftovers, normally. We will definitely make this autumn soup again!
11/xxx/2012
We really liked this soup. I had to change information technology a flake based on what I had on hand. I used frozen vegetables not canned, and had to utilize diced tomatoes. Since I made these changes I had to add together extra water and I as well threw in an extra can of tomato sauce. Thank you for the recipe!
04/29/2013
I was searching for ground beef recipes and tried this one. Our family loved it. Instead of using canned veggies, I used frozen or fresh. Much higher in nutritional value. I reduced the ground beefiness to 1 lb and used grass fed pastured local ground sirloin. Information technology was plenty of beef. This is a keeper. Thanks for the recipe.
03/19/2013
I retrieve my mother making this very same soup when I was a kid, and I loved it then. Though all of her veggies were canned from the garden, this recipe is delicious!
02/02/2013
This is a huge favorite at our house. I do add beefiness broth for sure. Too hot sauce! I make a huge pot so freeze some. We've gone on vacation with a gallon goose egg-lock of frozen soup and had a wonderful dinner when we arrived at our destination. Honey it!!
03/01/2013
This is our get to meal for cold weather. Accept been making it for many years. Use less ground meat just lots of frozen / fresh vegetables, low sodium beef broth, no salt seasonings, fresh or stale herbs to taste, lots of garlic, low or no salt tomatoes and tomato sauce and sometimes a little pasta. Occasionally grate some Parmesan on top of each serving. Serve with a good crusty breadstuff.
04/03/2013
Good hearty meal.
02/05/2013
So good, and pretty low in carbs for those of us who are diabetic. Substantial enough to be a whole meal! Has become a favorite.
12/31/2012
Overall I would say this is not bad. Every bit Mardi posted, this was more stew than soup. I didn't have whatever beef broth or extra room in my pot so I fabricated it this pretty much un-doctored. I don't recall this had enough liquids to actually call this soup, but it did hit the spot. It was a flake bland; i would recommend calculation some more than spices to add flavor.
08/29/2013
This one is a keeper, loved it ! and want to cook information technology over again tonight! im currently traveling and my new Brazilian family unit LOVED It !
01/21/2013
Nosotros really liked this at our house. It is super thick - non really a soup. That was great for u.s. though. I had to add together more liquid to continue it from burning on the bottom. I volition make it once again!
eleven/18/2014
Very very good soup recipes. It took significantly longer for the carrots to get soft than the five minutes recommended. Next time I will sautéed onions with the beefiness, then add the celery and carrots to that mixture along with the trounce tomatoes and tomato sauce.
08/03/2013
I left the hamburger out and added 3 cups of cabbage. It was a bit thick so I thinned information technology out with 1 can of beefiness goop and a 2-3 cups of water and 2 beef bullion cubes. I adapted the seasonings to gustatory modality. And so good.
09/11/2013
I honestly had my doubts most this recipe, but it turned out succulent. I will definitely exist making it over again
05/27/2013
This was fantastic, similar others I added beef broth to arrive more of a soup. I likewise added garlic table salt. Will definitely make it over again.
06/30/2013
This was really skilful. I think the next time I will put cabbage in information technology.
05/07/2013
This was a hit! I went with adding liquid to make information technology more than of a soup, similar anybody else did. I also added Italian seasonings, cut up some mild italian sausage and a couple cloves of garlic. I did not put peas in information technology though, didn't have any on hand. I served it with bread. I cooked it in a crockpot instead of the stove top. I will go far once again.
01/13/2014
Greater starter recipe to add your own touches! Since I alive in LA I added garlic and rotel tomatoes for a petty kick. We always love Worcestershire with any beef recipe. I had some chicken broth and added about 2 cups, frozen corn, and ane large sweetness potato instead of carrots. Yummy and hearty!
07/21/2013
I but added some Kale, Zucchini, and Broccoli to make this a vegetable powerhouse and my family actually ate it up! I likewise added 2 quarts of beef broth. I dearest that this recipe is super simple to make from ingredients on mitt. Everything can come out of the freezer or pantry for those days when you lot haven't been to the store for a while. It's flexible too, however is good when ingredients change here and there.
01/05/2014
Great soup! I did make some changes to account for the ingredients I had on hand. I used 2.75 lbs of hamburger and frozen black-eyed peas instead of canned. It was too thick with the additional meat and so I added xvi oz. beef broth (made with base) and 2 cans of V8. I adapted the thyme and pepper for the boosted ingredients. The recipe turned out to be the all-time beef vegetable soup I've fabricated so far!
10/05/2013
wonderful everyone loves this soup. add a little, take a little away it is withal awesome! cant get wrong.
11/05/2013
This soup was and so expert! Making information technology over again next week. Family loved information technology.
02/04/2014
I used this recipe as my first try to make vegetable beefiness soup and loved the style it came out. While I started out using my dutch oven, by the time I added all the vegetables (fresh or frozen-the bag mix with okra in it was a adept add-on), I had to motion it to the crock pot. I added beef stock since it was very thick. Nothing is more enjoyable than warm, comfort food on dank days and in that location is still some in the freezer to savor another twenty-four hour period!
11/17/2014
Would make this over again.
02/08/2014
I doctored this up a bit. Added 30 ounces of beefiness broth, fresh garlic, and 2 tabular array spoons of Frank's hot sauce to give it a scrap of a zing. The added beefiness broth makes information technology a soup instead of a stew. I would start by following the recipe and let your gustatory modality exist the commuter.
12/24/2013
Not one drop was left....great soup. I made this the other solar day while I was doing last minute preps for Christmas. I did follow the advice of one of the other reviewers and added beefiness broth (as listed it was more like stew and I wanted soup) - added a 32 ounce container. That was the but alter I made and everyone in my house loved it. A definite keeper and will be making over again real before long. Thanks for sharing this great recipe.
02/16/2015
This was a very succulent, thick, and satifying soup for a very cold wintertime 24-hour interval. As written I recollect information technology's more than of a stew...very thick. I added 28 oz low sodium beefiness broth to go this upward to a soup consistency and only used 1 ane/2 lb basis beef. I besides added Montreal seasoning, garlic and onion powders to the published ingredients. Loved all of the veggies in hither. A thumbs up from hubs, too, with plenty of leftovers for the freezer. Thank you for sharing your recipe with usa, Sue!
12/19/2013
This was very good. I did add a can of beef goop then information technology was more than soupy, used frozen peas instead of canned because canned peas are besides mushy added some garlic, johnny'south seasoning table salt and a couple splashes of worcesteshire. My husband ate 2 huge bowls and fifty-fifty wanted to have it the side by side night for dinner.
09/24/2013
This was delicious!! The Only affair I added was ii cloves of garlic. We like bold flavors and I usually put garlic in all my meals. Thank you for a swell recipe.
04/01/2014
I used one/2 cup of water, 1 tin of chicken broth, no potatoes, frozen peas, and well-nigh a teaspoon of thyme. Lots of salt and pepper.
01/07/2014
Made this concluding dark and it was perfect for a cold wintertime day. I made a few changes merely based on what I had in the firm - frozen peas instead of canned and diced tomatoes instead of whole. I also followed the suggestion to add some boosted chicken broth for some boosted flavor and liquid. I probably added about 1 cup and information technology resulted in a delicious and hearty soup. My son ate 3 bowls!
03/12/2014
Flavor was skilful. I added nearly ane.v cups of water equally it was very thick otherwise. Everyone like information technology and I froze some for another day.
01/07/2015
Soup on the first common cold nighttime in Jan Is nifty for my family unit. Anybody loved information technology. Thanks
10/20/2014
This vegetable stew is very easy and VERY good. I added a petty table salt, cumin and paprika to give it nothing. Not much though. It makes a large pot that my kids finished off for lunch the next day. I will brand this once more. Information technology takes longer than twenty minutes to fix, plan on 45.
09/03/2013
Very good recipe. Used fresh vegetables instead of canned. Also, I finely chopped 2 of our fresh chili's and threw them in to simmer with with my beefiness and vegetable mixture. Lastly, I added some fresh chopped kale only near the finish to give a piddling more than dimension in flavour.
x/16/2016
Why rate something when you left out the beef and added the cabbage? Yous would be rating your ain recipe. Small adjustments may be appreciated only I made this just as it read and it was very good.
12/22/2013
Swell meal!! I switched sweet potatoes with white potatoes, and only used one lbs of meat, but also added worshire sauce, it was really good
04/03/2014
Absolutely loved this. Substituted the potatoes with sugariness potatoes. Great recipe :)
11/17/2013
LOVED this!
11/26/2013
I didn't have tomatoes. So I used tomato juice instead of h2o.
12/29/2013
Used ground turkey, no peas, can of beef stock
08/24/2014
This was a delicious soup! I added two bouillon cubes (Knorr brand) with hot water before I added it to the soup. It was more like a stew since it was then thick. I cut the recipe in one-half too. The hotter you want the soup, the more pepper yous add. I will definitely making this again.
02/23/2015
I added 4 cups of beef broth, no tomato sauce, no corn, frozen peas. OUTSTANDING!
04/xv/2014
The recipe is excellent! I just added some beefiness broth and more than herbs to add more gustation.
04/16/2014
Very practiced basic recipe. easy to switch up to make information technology your ain. likewise a good way to use up leftover veggies and hamburgers. ( especially hambugers cooked on the grill) to make it easier i will just use the frozen pocketbook of mixed vegetables and normally instead of plain tomatoes i will use ro-tel. also cracking to utilise macaroni noodles to bulk information technology up a bit and brand information technology a little heartier.
08/08/2014
When I brand this I practise use frozen okra, lima, kidney and butter beans and what makes this standard recipe and so cracking is using the veggies you and your family unit similar
08/07/2014
Makes a LARGE portion. I added a lilliputian more spice to it and it was succulent! Bang-up recipe. Would recommend you try it.
12/xi/2013
Great recipe! i added ii cups of water for more than broth and 2 yellow chilis. That spice was perfect!
01/20/2015
This is a savory hearty soup. My hubby said this is his favorite soup I accept ever made. Yummy!
02/21/2015
This was great but must acknowledge, I changed it upwards quite a fleck because I was emptying out the freezer & pantry due to leaving our vacation abode later several months. I used ground chicken and all of the veggies came from the freezer. I also used a can of diced tomatoes and liked the bits of tomato for colour. Many added broth, I had a 48oz box of low sodium beefiness goop that needed to be used, I added the entire thing and loved the result. Hubs commented he really liked it and nosotros have several containers in the freezer for the concluding few weeks of vacation!
02/24/2015
Then great!
03/26/2017
I've been making this stew for the concluding 40+ years. It's a great way to save on those high beef prices for stew meat and you get meat in pretty much every seize with teeth using ground beef instead. I oasis't found any one family unit or friend who hasn't loved stew however it's made. Information technology's so versatile that yous tin literally dump in every thing but the kitchen sink and it volition always turn out yummy! You tin brand it with tomato juice if you don't have love apple sauce or yous tin can omit both and just add canned diced tomatoes. You lot can add beef broth (liquid, cubed or granular) or none at all. You tin can add any veggies your family likes including ones you wouldn't normally use in a stew and information technology will nevertheless come out good! Employ any seasoning your family likes best but do add some garlic to your browning beef (it really adds to the beefiness flavor) besides as some diced onions as your browning your meat. Yous can use all canned veggies, dwelling house canned veggies or frozen veggies or a combination there of. I can't imagine anyone screwing up a stew especially if you just use what your family likes. I don't normally use bay leafage in my stew only I imagine it would only add another layer of flavor. For those new cooks out there don't be agape to dump whatever veggies your family commonly likes in information technology. I promise it will come out amazing. Sometimes I even put in some cabbage in our stew if I have it simply not always. We also like a few diced bell peppers in ours. This stuff is just as skillful warmed up a solar day or even three
02/11/2015
This soup was fantastic, my whole family loved it, though my heart daughter said information technology was not "soup" considering it was so thick. Making information technology once again side by side calendar week. Just change was I used beefiness goop instead of h2o and probably added a whole cup and I also threw in some Spicy V8 that I had left over. Seriously, then skilful!!
11/26/2013
This was pretty practiced. I used ground deer meat instead of beef. If I make it again, I will only use 1 lb of meat. It is definitely more of a stew than a soup like other have said in their comments.
09/15/2015
Made this every bit the recipe says, with the exception of calculation beef broth since I like my soups a footling more than, well, soupy.. It was very adept but seems to need more seasonings. But still pretty darn good!
11/06/2013
I really enjoyed this. It was a keen basic recipe. I contradistinct it some to make it my own, of form. I rarely don't. ( I used 2 cans of rotel and fresh ruby tomatoes in place of the cans of tomato the recipe asked for, and a few more seasonings) I also served information technology over rice. It was fantastic! Thank you!
eleven/05/2014
This turned out and so delicious! The only thing that I changed was that I added about a TBS of minced garlic and 1 Qt. of beef goop. I didn't have any peas and I used two spice mixtures that I love and use frequently- (Bragg Organic Sprinkle 24 herbs and spices seasoning and Kroger Zesty Seasoning Alloy) about ii tsp of each. Other than that, I followed the recipe that was given. We volition definitely make this one again!
10/13/2016
favor was simply a niggling flat, ho-hum cooked ground round, cut it in small parts and added to the hamburger, which richened the favor. Information technology's very good!!
01/05/2015
And so far it smells bang-up (and tastes dandy as well)!! I added 32oz of beef stock and drained the beans and peas (if I feel it'south besides runny, I figure I can add together Arrowroot powder to thicken). I as well added near 1TBS of Oregano, Parsley, and Basil along with a lot of extra Thyme with liberal salt and pepper. I think the seasonings are a little lite, plus I'm going through an Italian phase :) I besides added about 4 garlic cloves to the beefiness while it was browning, omitted the corn, and used sugariness potatoes instead of reg potatoes. We shall encounter! I'll report back!
02/14/2015
Very good! I added to cups of beef broth. Also 2-4 cups h2o and lots of garlic.
11/05/2014
Amazing flavour the side by side day, we added body of water salt pepper and garlic powder to the mix
02/12/2015
This soup was so simple to brand and turned out succulent!! Reading the reviews was really helpful. Using footing chuck, I didn't need to drain the meat because at that place was hardly any grease. I omitted the h2o and used 2 containers of beef goop (about 32 oz. each). As well, I don't use the thyme or bay foliage considering I didn't take whatever on paw, and information technology still turned out great. Sometimes I'll add a small can of love apple paste if I'm going for a stronger love apple flavour. This soup has become a staple in our abode!! Thank you!!
06/08/2015
I used ground turkey instead of ground beef and I added a cup of Quinoa in the concluding xv minutes of cooking. I ended upward calculation several (I lost track) cups of water for it to be a soup. Maybe I will add vegetable stock next fourth dimension.
09/23/2013
I really liked it! I besides had to add beef broth because it was too much like a stew. It was delicious though!
12/15/2014
Since this recipe received groovy reviews, I decided to double the recipe on the first endeavour. I'm glad I did. First, I agree with what everyone said on adding more than liquid. I added 2 cups of no sodium beef broth, and it wasn't plenty (I didn't have any more room). My soup yet came out similar a stew. Didn't bother me because it was so tasty. I did some small changes to the original recipe: I sauteed the onions with the beefiness and substituted the peas & green beans with frozen edamame & frozen cauliflower (married man doesn't like peas or green beans). Volition definitely be making this again.
03/15/2015
Hearty and easy to make. I think I would cutting downward the number of potatoes though. I used three and that was a scrap too many. Also, be sure to add a little water each time yous reheat and cutting the potatoes up pocket-sized.
11/23/2014
This is a really tasty soup! The just affair I added was some table salt (to sense of taste) and rather than canned peas/corn/beans I used frozen.
12/29/2014
I substituted and omitted some ingredients. Namely: ii cans of Delmonte mixed vegetables instead of listed veggies 1 can of Campbell's tomato soup instead of lycopersicon esculentum sauce Omitted the bay foliage Scrumptious
02/03/2018
I concur with many of the other opinions that this was more than stew than soup and that information technology was a little bland. Mayhap some thyme or bay leaves next fourth dimension. With salt and pepper it was pretty good.
12/21/2016
This was SO easy and SO good. I added garlic to the footing beef and onions. I left out the celery and used canned carrots that I put in with the rest of the veggies. I used beef broth instead of water. I besides added some Italian seasoning. Served it with cornbread and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
11/23/2019
easy and tasty. Tin easily employ whatsoever vegetable.
01/21/2019
Followed comments to make it Swell! Volition brand again. 1lb footing beef. Added ane tin can garbanzo beans, 4 garlic cloves, 1 tbls oregano . No peas or pea h2o, so made information technology upward with 4 cups water with bouillon (until covered with liquid). Cooked on High for 2.five hours in deadening cooker.
09/21/2020
Great base! I only had a 28oz tin of crushed tomatoes and didn't want to waste any, so I tossed information technology all in with the balance of the ingredients (in addition to 1.5 cartons of beef broth, double the recommended seasonings, & plenty of salt) and it was keen! I'd recommend adding the beef goop if you want more of a soup than a stew! Information technology all fit well inside an 8 quart Dutch oven. Will definitely make again this wintertime.
12/11/2016
Made a few modifications, added beefy mushroom soup and a 2nd can of tomato sauce. Information technology turned out good. My xiv yr old raved about information technology.
01/25/2017
i made it with italian crushed tomatoes, added some salt and used frozen peas instead of canned.
03/22/2020
I added a tin can of tomato soup and some beefiness bouillon to this and it made it even amend!!!!
01/26/2016
Excellent! Didn't add peas, corn or thyme (my hubby claims thyme tastes similar pines needles). Information technology was piece of cake and cooked while working on homework. Will brand once more and again, I was told almost 5 times..."Keen Dinner Idea"! Bask!
02/20/2019
I'one thousand assuming the absence of common salt in the recipe was an oversight. You volition certainly demand some unless you lot enjoy really bland food. I suggest beefiness burgoo cubes dissolved in humid h2o. Recipe was far too thick. 1/4 cup of h2o won't come close to making it like soup. I had to add about 4 cups of water as well as salt and finally some hot sauce to requite information technology whatsoever flavor. It was still pretty thick.
09/15/2016
Actually good base to a vegetable soup. I stuck to the recipe just used frozen veggies and added 3 cups of beef goop. Also used oregano and a little cayenne pepper for a little bite! Then so good! Added a dollop of cottage cheese in the middle before serving astonishing soup!
08/xiv/2018
I didn't accept whatever peas on paw, so I used green beans instead. I cut my potatoes a little larger than 1 inch, and so information technology took longer to cook. But it was a huge hitting with my hubby and I, and he's non actually a big soup eater. My kids are picky and they didn't like it, but they really merely desire junk :( I will definitely be making this once more in the future.
08/11/2016
Succulent with changes. Like other reviewers said, information technology was a stew, not a soup, and so I added two c. of beef broth. I used no salt tomatoes then added 1 tsp. garlic salt and a few shakes of regular salt. I also added 1/2 tsp. basil.
06/09/2019
I made the recipe exactly as written. It was delicious and my family loved it. Will definitely make it again.
ten/25/2015
The original recipe was likewise thick for my taste. Simply the overall taste was fantastic. I added a carton of chicken broth, because I didn't have beefiness broth on hand, and almost a loving cup of ketchup. I similar the bit of sweetness brought in my the ketchup. All that extra liquid I added got mopped up by grilled cheese sandwiches. Which I think are the perfect compliment to this cold atmospheric condition soup.
11/02/2016
I made this merely how it says only instead of ground beef added albondigas (meatballs) and cooked in the crockpot. Served with buttered tortillas. Yummy! Will definitely keep this i!
10/23/2017
Made it for the 1st time, it was okay. I had to arrange the recipe a fleck because I didn't take all the ingredients. I would like to make once more than before giving a more consummate review but it's a fairly bones vegetable soup recipe... hard to go incorrect.
12/31/2016
Very easy recipe! Nonetheless, I used frozen veggies & added beef goop to it.
07/16/2020
I've made this soup/stew twice now and both times it's come out fabled! Husband loves information technology and information technology's a peachy recipe when you take even just a 1/two lb of leftover basis beefiness. Giving it iv stars but because I recollect it's a few spices/seasonings short of being perfection but I haven't quite figured out what those are. Strongly advise seasoning the heck out of your beef while browning with pepper, garlic pulverisation, onion powder and some table salt. Definitely added beefiness broth and used frozen mixed veggies. We aren't big on chunks of tomatoes in soup and so I used love apple sauce and a can of diced tomatoes but only the liquid. Stop off with grated Parmesan! Volition definitely brand over and over!
03/27/2020
The only thing I did different was I added a can of stewed tomatoes. The soup was excellant! I received a lot of compliments. Everyone asked me to arrive again. I volition gladly brand information technology over and over again! It really IS easy. Simply, that's OUR secret.
12/23/2019
Had some neighbors over for a little Christmas get together and it was a big hit. Since I had read some of the previous comments and I like a lot of broth, I added both beef and chicken broth. I added extra thyme, two bay leaves and some garlic powder. Turned out great.
12/eleven/2018
This was so easy! I don't utilize can veggies so I used frozen.
xi/04/2015
added 24oz tomatoe sauce plus 6cups beef broth family loved it
12/12/2017
This was a expert bones soup. I used frozen vegetables for the peas, light-green beans, and corn b/c that is what I prefer. Also, instead of simply the thyme and bay leaves I used an Italian seasoning blend. Beef broth worked good equally the base instead of only h2o and yous definitely need more than listed if you desire information technology to truly be a soup verses stew texture. My husband liked information technology and my kids didn't complain virtually it so I meet that every bit a win!
12/17/2016
Very tasty soup! I accidentally poured the unabridged can of corn into the pot without draining and rinsing it first. I think that made the soup taste a little sweet. I tried to counteract the sweet with more beefiness broth and a little common salt. I skipped the can of green beans because I ran out of room in my dutch oven. Overall very good soup! I'll definitely make this once more.
09/13/2016
I am agoraphobic and don't exit my house unless my husband takes me. I was really running low on groceries and hubby was working late. I had all of the ingredients for this except carrots. I had shredded ones for my salad. I used frozen mixed vegetables that had carrots and a few minutes before serving threw in some of the shredded carrots. I had everything else on hand. This was really good! The best was my husband had a meal set when he got home. Thank you for sharing.
05/31/2020
Information technology turned out bland so I added beef broth and information technology tastes fantastic!!
02/03/2018
Quick, piece of cake, and filling! I added beefiness broth instead of water :)
09/20/2015
Delicious and piece of cake :) I added a little marjoram.
12/26/2016
I was looking for a soup recipe to use some leftover prime rib in and this was the perfect one! I modified the recipe a little using the diced meat in place of the ground beefiness and used beef stock instead of water for additional flavor. I prefer frozen vegetables to canned so used frozen corn and peas! Served with cheesy breadstuff!
